A fire fighter in South Africa’s Nelson Mandela Bay has drawn attention after he took a photo of himself swimming in a swimming pond.
The caption reads: “This is what I did when I was a fire fighter, swimming in the pond!”
The man in the photo was identified as fire fighter Peter van den Berghe, who is also a firefighter.
Mr van den Bogaert has since been identified as a member of the Fire Service of South Africa.
“It was a nice day and a nice place, so I was quite surprised that I got in trouble,” he told the Daily Mail newspaper.
Mr Van den Berghen told the paper that he wanted to show the community that he had a sense of humour.
“I’m a good swimmer.
I am a great swimmer.
I have a great sense of humor.
It’s a bit of a shock that people have been surprised by that,” he said.
I’m not complaining, I’m very happy that I’ve got the courage to swim. “
You have to learn to swim and it’s not easy, but you have to do it.
“We don’t have many people who can do it and we have a very limited amount of time, so we just try to help others.” “
A fire service spokesman said that the incident was an isolated incident and that he was not aware of any other incidents of a similar nature. “
